Geography of Canada

The geography of Canada is vast and diverse and occupies most of the northern portion of North America. Canada is the world's second largest country in total area after Russia.

The Appalachian mountain range extends from Alabama in the southern United States through the Gaspé Peninsula and the Atlantic Provinces, creating rolling hills indented by river valleys. It also runs through parts of southern Quebec.

The Canadian Rockies are comprised of the Canadian segment of the North American Rocky Mountains range. They are the eastern part of the Canadian Cordillera, extending from the Interior Plains of Alberta to the Rocky Mountain Trench of British Columbia. The Canadian Rockies are extremely popular for skiing.

Ski Season in Canada

The skiing season in Canada is usually from around December to April although some resorts are open all year round.

Average winter and summer high temperatures across Canada vary according to the location. Winters can be harsh in many regions of the country, particularly in the interior and Prairie provinces, which experience a continental climate, where daily average temperatures are near -15°C (5°F) but can drop below -40°C (-40.0°F) with severe wind chills. In noncoastal regions, snow can cover the ground almost six months of the year (more in the north). C
